What is the Bauer Power Line?

A national development and scouting program designed to identify, test and recruit junior Canadian hockey players to the sport of professional cycling.

Canadian cycling great Steve Bauer started the program as a tool to strengthen Team SpiderTech powered by C10's development program. Steve is a strong believer that hockey players make great cyclists and that Canada can become more competitive in cycling on the world stage.

What does the testing consist of?

SpiderTech PowerWatts Challenge testing is using a specifically designed test by the developers of www.powerwatts.com. uses the PowerWatts. This system that can evaluate a rider's power outputs, bike positioning and technique. PowerWatts coaching staff will be onsite to explain and administer the testing. Each test will last for approximately 45-60 minutes.

What is the PowerWatts System?

The PowerWatts™ training system was created in 1996 by Paulo Saldanha, an exercise physiologist and former professional Ironman triathlete. PowerWatts™ is an indoor group training system that combines individualized power testing and training on multi-adjustable bikes. PowerWatts uses scientifically based power matrixes designed to evaluate and improve cycling performance with anyone from beginners to elite riders.

What if I am selected?

It is our goal to find 5 athletes that will become the 2011 Bauer Power Line. These athletes will be enrolled in the elite Bauer Power Line development program that trains and develops riders for Canada's first Professional Continental Cycling team, Team SpiderTech powered by C10.

Who is Team SpiderTech powered by C10?

Team SpiderTech powered by C10 is Canada's first Professional Continental Cycling Team. Founded by Steve Bauer and Josee Laroque in 2007 the team earned a Professional Continental license for 2011 from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and is currently preparing to break on to the World Tour and Tour de France in 2013. The team of 16 Canadians and 3 other North American riders is sponsored by SpiderTech Inc. and a consortium of Canadian corporations known as C10 that includes Blackberry, NRS Brakes, Pinetree Capital, Planet Energy and Saputo. Team SpiderTech powered by C10 will race throughout Europe and North America in 2011.

Who is Steve Bauer?

Steve Bauer won a silver medal in the cycling road race for Canada in the 1984 Summer Olympic Games and captured 14 yellow jerseys at the Tour de France throughout his career. Steve won stage 1 on the 1988 Tour de France and finished 4th overall. Bauer won the Canadian national road race championship in 1981, 1982 and 1983 and has represented Canada in the Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games. Steve Bauer is the co-founder currently serves as Team Director of Team SpiderTech powered by C10, Canada's first Professional Continental Cycling team.
